On December 7-8, 2023, we had the great honor and pleasure to participate in the III National Congress of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine "Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine in Ukraine in the Context of a Large-Scale War".

Since the Congress covered the issues of multidisciplinary rehabilitation, we are extremely pleased that the issues of speech and language therapy were covered by members of our society: Oksana Lyalka (head of the society), Anna Tomchuk (deputy head of the society) and Yulia Dulenchuk (member of the society).
Oksana Lyalka spoke about the fact that a speech and language therapist is an independent profession in the field of health care.
Yulia Dulenchuk spoke about functional-oriented memory and language therapy after severe TBI and polytrauma and shared a clinical case study that revealed the effectiveness of cognitive-communication therapy for a military man with TBI.
Anna Tomchuk spoke about the role of speech and language therapists in swallowing management in patients with traumatic brain injury. She shared a clinical case and emphasized the important responsibilities of a speech and language therapist when working with patients with swallowing disorders.
These presentations once again showed that a speech and language therapist is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team who plays a leading role in the management of patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
In general, events such as the National Congress of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine provide an opportunity for all rehabilitation professionals to communicate, share experiences and understand the importance of each specialist in rehabilitation - physical and occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, prosthetists, psychologists, social workers and nurses. This contributes to the development of the state rehabilitation system, education of specialists working in this field and improvement of rehabilitation services in Ukraine as a whole.
